As we move into a new semester, there are a few technologies I wish to incorporate in my classes. These technologies include but are not limited to Socrative, Remind, and Edmodo all which have downloadable applications. Please click on the name of the applications below to go to each website to learn more about them.
Remind is a phone application that lets me update students with last minute announcements and information via text message without exchanging personal information.
Each class period is given their own code (e.g. Class period 1A: @Potomac1A, Class period 3B: @Potomac3B) to text to a phone number associated with the Remind101 application that is linked to my phone. Once a student (or parent) has texted their class code to the phone number provided, they will receive a message back asking for their name. Students and/or parents should reply with first and last name.
At this point you will be subscribed to your correct class that I have set up in the application, and you are ready to receive any information I may send (homework, extra credit, etc.). You are unable to call or text the phone number provided for Remind101 so Teacher - Student/Parent conversation is not allowed.
In class I shared with everyone and introduced Edmodo! This is a platform very similar to Schoology but has a lot of functions as an educator that are more beneficial. Students, please make sure you sign up with the code that I provided during class to access weekly assignments.
Parents, if you would like the class code for your scholar please contact me so that I can provide that to you as soon as possible. Please keep in mind that like all new things, it takes some getting used to so be patient as we move into this new technology. Save the trees!
Don't forget to download the mobile application Socrative which we will be using for daily class Warm Ups and Exit Tickets. Socrative will also be used for assessments and individual and/or group activities called Space Race.
It allows me to collect and see student responses in real time making the process of giving meaningful feedback a lot faster. Also, please make sure to download the student version of the application. Save the trees!
